Raised in a family of goldsmiths, Bernd Wilhelm began his journey in jewellery making in Pforzheim, a globally recognized center of fine jewelry craftsmanship in Germany often referred to as the “City of Gold” where he built the foundation of his lifelong expertise.
How it all started…
Bernd Wilhelm arrived in Mauritius in 2002 and began his journey entirely from the ground up. At that time, he brought with him only his expertise, determination, and two 40-foot containers filled with professional machinery and specialized tools from Germany.
From the outset, he was supported by his wife, who stood firmly by his side and played an essential role in the development of the atelier. Her continuous support and commitment were instrumental in turning his vision into reality in Mauritius.
the installation of the equipment presented significant logistical challenges. Several of the machines, including heavy rollingmills, polishing maschines, drawing benches were exceptionally large and extremely heavy. due to their dimensions and heavy weight, they could not be brought into the first floor of the building. as a result, parts of the workshop structure had to be carefully opened and the machinery was then lifted and positioned inside using a crane. this complex and demanding process marked the foundation of the atelier, reflecting a commitment to precision, perseverance and uncompromising craftsmanship from the very beginning.
